To Our Friends In Japan, From Cheryl

Dear Friends in Japan,

We are far more than friends, as we have been visiting your gracious land for over 20 years now. As a member of The Manhattan Transfer, may I send my heartfelt prayers to you. We were so very saddened by the cancelation of our tour this week, but were duly advised to return home. It was with a heavy heart, we flew home. We promise to return as soon as nature and time allows to fulfill our tour comittments and support to our Japanese friends and fans. You have been so kind and loving to us since we first began coming over to do concerts we are grateful beyond words. So, with all my loving thoughts and constant prayers of a full recovery, I wish you all the aid and help you need. It is beyond human understanding what you have had to withstand. I can only watch and weep.

With all my love and prayers of healing,
Cheryl Bentyne

From Janis…

It’s official…

We’re heading home [from Japan] tomorrow. there is a part of me that would like to go, not because “the show must go on” ( I am decidedly NOT that kind of an entertainer) but because I would like to be brave, help to uplift people, and be there at this moment in history.

A Message To Our Fans in Japan From Tim

To all of our fans in Japan,

It is with great disappointment that we must, for the moment, postpone our engagements in Tokyo and Nagoya. This is a very sad and tragic time for so many people. We are sure that many of you have friends and loved ones in Sendai, and the neighboring areas that were directly affected from the earthquake and tsumami. The images on the television are overwhelming. After consultation with our families, it was felt that it would not be the best time to perform our music in Japan, but rather, wait a bit, and return under more fortuitous circumstances.

Japan always holds a very large place in our hearts, and we are deeply saddened by these recent events. Japan will recover from this bad experience, and the wounds will heal.

We want you all to know that we hold you close to our hearts, and pray for those who have suffered from this terrible act of nature. We all look forward to returning very soon to Japan, and hope that our music can make you feel better, and, at least for a moment, take you away from this tragedy.

Java Jive In Space

The NASA space shuttle report on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 [7:00 a.m. CST] revealed that our “Java Jive” was the wakeup song of the day for the crew…

The crew’s wakeup call to begin their fourth day in space came at 6:23 a.m., giving them 30 minutes of extra sleep to make up for a later than expected bedtime on Saturday. The wakeup song for the day, “Java Jive” as performed by The Manhattan Transfer quartet, was played for Commander Steve Lindsey. STS-133 is Lindsey’s fifth shuttle mission and third visit to the space station.
