LADIES AND GENTLEMEN… KATIE CAMPBELL!
TMT NEWS – The Manhattan Transfer would like to introduce the lovely and talented Katie Campbell. Katie will be stepping in and singing the high notes with TMT the next couple of months for Cheryl Bentyne.
Katie Campbell – Katie is a true Los Angeles native! Born into a musical family, Katie spent her youth in piano lessons, dance classes, and putting on shows in her parents’ kitchen. She graduated from the kitchen to the Hamilton High School Academy of Music, and continued her musical education at Western Michigan University.
Katie’s professional musical experience ranges from touring asa background singer with Sheryl Crow, to singing on Bobby McFerrin’s GRAMMY-nominated album VOCAbuLarieS, to singing on film scores, including The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Joyful Noise, John Carter, The Last Airbender, and The Day The Earth Stood Still. Katie had the privilege to record a guide vocal for Barbra Streisand (music composed by Bryan Adams), and also sang on NBC’s The Playboy Club, Universal’s Curious George, and on Josh Groban’s recent release, All That Echoes. In addition, Katie was a featured vocalist at the Grammy Foundation’s signature gala entitled Starry Night honoring Sir George Martin, and has also sung for/with Stevie Wonder, Elvis Costello, Seth MacFarlane, Ziggy Marley, Michael Bublé, and Peter Marshall.
Katie is currently a recording artist for BuySoundTrax Records, featuring arrangements by Dennis McCarthy, Dominik Hauser, Daniel Redfeld, Joohyun Park, and Brandon Verrett. Katie released her first solo album in 2011, entitled End of the Beginning, produced by LA session singer Fletcher Sheridan, and engineered by Nels Jensen. She performed her CD Release Show to a sold-out Jazz Bakery crowd! Katie is currently the soprano in upcoming vocal jazz/fusion ensemble, True North, and looks forward to their future! In addition, Katie performed as a featured vocalist with Woodford-Ehling-Ratner-Wallace (Los Angeles), the San Gabriel Seven (Pasadena), The Wee Trio (New York City), and the New West Guitar Quartet (Los Angeles). Katie also sang soprano in the LA-based jazz ensemble The Ron McCurdy Collective, and is the soprano on their debut CD entitled April in Paris.
With a background in musical theater, Katie’s post-college career began as the female stand-by in the off-Broadway show Loudmouth with the a cappella group Toxic Audio. She also toured throughout the Caribbean and Mexico with Toxic Audio. Katie’s debut television performance was on the 49th Annual Grammy Awards singing with Gnarls Barkley, and debut film performance was as a dancer in Seven Days of Grace (as Kathryn Campbell).
Katie earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University. While pursuing her studies she earned a Downbeat Award for Best Collegiate Jazz Vocalist. Katie has performed throughout the United States, in numerous European countries (including France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Latvia, Estonia, and the Czech Republic), South Africa, and most recently in Seoul, Korea as a performer and clinician. She formerly taught for the Bachelor Degree Program at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA, and currently teaches voice and piano lessons at Coast Music Conservatory in Hermosa Beach, CA.
Katie studied acting with Darryl Hickman for four years, and was then a member and artist in Tony Sears’ acting workshop The Physics of Acting. Katie completed her Master of Arts in Humanities / Humanistic Studies at the California State University, Northridge in 2013 with distinction, and is also a certified yoga instructor. Katie has been a proud member of SAG-AFTRA since 2007.
