“It’s no news that Siegel has a remarkable vocal instrument, that her sense of time and phrasing are superb, or that every note she sings is delivered with impeccable musicality,” writes Don Heckman of the International Review of Music. Over the past four decades, the nine-time Grammy winner and seventeen-time Grammy nominee has been an undeniable force in music. Janis is a founding member of The Manhattan Transfer, as well as a solo artist, producer and arranger.
For her latest venture, NightSongs: A Late Night Interlude, Janis has interpreted music by a wide variety of artist – from Jobim to Johnny Mercer, Randy Newman to Jorge Drexler, and Janelle Monae – one of her new favorites. Siegel calls Marie by Randy Newman the “ultimate drunken love song” and she considers Mercer’s Midnight Sun “arguably, one of the top 10 greatest songs ever written.” The album also includes Lover, made famous by Peggy Lee, and You’re Mine, You – an R&B take on Chet Baker’s version. Musicians featured on this album include: John DiMartino (Piano & Arrangements), Christian McBride (Bass), Martin Wind (Bass), Joel Rosenblatt (Drums), Paul Meyers (Guitar), Joel Frahm (Sax), Dominick Farinacci, (Trumpet), Steve Khan (Guitar& Arrangements) and Luisito Quintero (Percussion).
