Pastiche
Pastiche was released January 19, 1978 and peaked at #66 on Billboard’s Top Pop Album charts. It was the last studio album recorded with Laurel Massé, who left the group in 1978.
“Tim produced a great record,” Alan says of Pastiche. Recorded in LA and New York between December 1976 and September 1977, associate producer Janis recalls that Pastiche “was a labor of love.”
In a Jazziz review, it states “…Pastiche is populated by Siegel’s breakout bop and scats, and it skips across a musical landscape from big bands to country western to vintage swing…” Alan adds: “One of my favorite albums, especially ‘Love For Sale’ and ‘Gal In Calico.'”
Pastiche’s eclectic blend of songs makes it a favorite of fans. “The ‘Four Brothers’ session in New York was memorable,” says Janis. It’s also no surprise that she mentions “I loved doing ‘In a Mellow Tone’ with Dave Frishberg.” “Big hit in Europe and sold moderately in the States,” recalls Alan.
Transfer fans are glad that this great album is now available on CD, as the vinyl version was hard to find.
